When Life Gets Lifey

  • Galit "Gah-leet" Stam

Some weeks, I feel like Superwoman. Other weeks, life gets lifey and asks me to slow down. This week was the second kind. I tried to push forward, but I could feel the resistance. So I stopped. And what I remembered next changed everything.

Slow Down, Find Grace, and Stop Pushing

Some weeks, I feel like Superwoman, unstoppable and effortlessly getting all the things done. Other weeks, life gets lifey, and asks me to slow down. This week was the second kind. I wanted to be productive, but every time I tried to push forward, I could feel the resistance in my body and mind. So I stopped.

I recognized I’m carrying a lot: my kids are still processing the school lockdown, and they just graduated elementary school. I’m so full of joy at their maturity and growth, and also feel that bittersweet “wow, my babies are becoming middle schoolers” feeling. Additionally, my father-in-law is recovering from a fall, thank G-d, and my brother is contemplating a major move across the world. And amidst all of this and plenty more, I’ve been doing my best to show up for my regular responsibilities of motherhood, family life, classes, committees, studies, work and everything in between.

I’ve been feeling stuck, distracted by life, unmotivated to learn new technologies, or be productive at work. However, I have tools that are working to get me out of the pit and back into alignment with positivity, creativity, and ease.

Firstly, I’ve been giving myself grace, taking the time to meditate, walk, have real conversations with friends, do some art, listen to music, dance, and rest—mentally and physically. These aren’t distractions from life, a lack of productivity, or a waste of time. These practices are helping me regroup, regulate my nervous system, reset, and return to flow state.

I've also remembered that one of the most powerful shifts we can make is moving our attention from what is wrong to what is possible. From finding faults to looking for the good. This doesn't mean I’ve been denying reality or pretending challenges don't exist. It means I’ve also intentionally looked for the good, the opportunities, and the lessons they may be offering.

We can find meaning in all things by looking for the good, even in very hard situations. I like to view challenges as puzzles with solutions that will come at the right time, and as opportunities for growth. This perspective has been incredibly helpful.

When I consciously focus on what's working, appreciate life's little joys, and cultivate genuine gratitude, the goodness multiplies and becomes easier to see, feel, and experience.

Healing and finding the best possible solutions rarely emerge through force. Instead, when we stop pushing, create space to listen, and reconnect with who we truly are, they often arise naturally, bringing with them greater ease and abundance.

I’ve learned that my creativity flows best when I feel grounded, whole, and in a state of gratitude. My energy is more positive, my home feels lighter, and the people around me feel uplifted too. Giving myself grace and caring for my own wellbeing is not selfish. It’s not a weakness. It’s necessary and often the very thing that allows me to show up as my best self, with more patience, love, creativity, and joy.

Maybe that’s the reminder someone else needs this week, too.

✍️ I invite you to take a moment to reflect on these questions and journal your thoughts with curiosity and grace, simply noticing what arises.

  • Where in your life do you need more grace right now?

  • What helps you return to yourself when life feels hard?

Sometimes what we need isn't to push harder, but to slow down, take care of ourselves, and remember that we don't have to navigate everything alone. If life feels uncertain, overwhelming, or heavy right now, I hope this serves as a gentle reminder to offer yourself the same grace and compassion you so freely give to others.

If you're craving more healing, support, connection, or joy, you're warmly invited to join us inside the Joy Alchemy Community. Each Wednesday at 12 PM Pacific, we gather online to practice simple tools that help us cultivate greater calm, shift our perspective toward joy, find the good in life's challenges, and create more health, wellbeing, and ease—one small step at a time.

And if you're seeking more personalized support, I would love to connect with you through a complimentary Pain to Possibility Discovery Call. Together, we can explore what healing, growth, and greater joy might look like for you.

Sending you light, ease, and a gentle reminder that self-care is a superpower!
