Wet Socks & Wildflowers, Leaks, Laughs, & Little Joys

Camper leaks, wildflower hikes, and unexpected challenges—our desert getaway reminded us that joy lives in the surprises, messes, and little moments of fun.

Jan 2026

We just returned from a short desert getaway, staying in an Airbnb camper that had all the essentials we were hoping for—hot showers, cozy beds, and a heater. Bliss… or so we thought.

What we didn’t anticipate was a leaking toilet (and sadly, not fresh water as we initially hoped). Oy. Definitely a low point. While still fresh, this is already becoming one of those stories we laugh about—wet socks and a very… unpleasant smell included. 😱😳

Despite that surprise, the trip was truly beautiful. We went on three gorgeous hikes filled with a surprising wildflower bloom, soft sprinkles of rain, deliciously cool weather, and some great climbing. Most importantly, we shared three days of special family time—lots of laughter, a little wrestling (my boys are definitely that age), and memories I’m so grateful for.

Today marks the beginning of a new year, and I’m genuinely excited. I’m already feeling grateful for what’s ahead—expecting wonderful things, curious, and trusting. No matter what life throws at me, I know I’m exactly where I’m meant to be. I’ve learned that there are silver linings and lessons woven into every experience (perhaps the lesson from the camper leak was simply to go with the flow! HA! 😄).

This grounded joy is available to all of us—even in uncertainty—when we allow ourselves the space to breathe, grow, and look for the good.

I invite you to take a deep breath 🌬️, let your shoulders soften, and notice the small sparks of joy already around you. Think about this:

  • What does joyful contentment currently look or feel like for you?

  • What helps you feel calm and heart-centered when things feel uncertain or noisy?

Grounded joy isn’t something we wait for—it’s something we can cultivate, even in surprises and messy moments.
